About Security Design Group, Consulting Engineers
Larry Houge, PE
Larry Houge is a Springfield native who has raised his family and built his business in his hometown.
Influenced by his engineer father, Larry’s love for combining construction and engineering was cultivated at an early age. He graduated from the University of Colorado with his civil engineering degree in 1963. A year later, while enlisted in the Air Force, he obtained his master’s degree in structural engineering. After completing his military service, Larry earned his professional engineer license (PE).
Larry served five years in the Air Force, attaining the rank of captain. His official title was Instructor Pilot, which meant he taught the pilots how to hit their mark. Forty years later as a structural engineering consultant, he applies some of those same principles to achieve business and engineering success.
Operating his own business for the length of his career, Larry is experienced in various construction and engineering disciplines. He considers structural engineering and construction management his fields of expertise, though he is widely experienced in several engineering disciplines related to construction.
Traveling extensively for the company, Larry has passage through airline security down to a science—we’d expect nothing less from this lifelong engineer!
Security Design Group is the outgrowth of Larry Houge’s career integrating construction management and engineering. For several years, his focus was on the fabrication and erection of structural steel. SDG continues with that work, however their services are much broader and encompass engineering areas relating to construction such as: structural engineering, commercial design, forensic engineering, emergency restoration, project administration, special inspections, design build, construction management and civil, mechanical, electrical and plumbing disciplines.
